Pretty freakin' snazzy if you ask me!

For all those game developers who are learning the tricks of the trade there is something interesting. Activision and Raven Software game studios have open sourced a couple of their games so that people can play as well learn from the code.

The gaming companies have released the source code of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast through SourceForge via jediacademy and jedioutcast. Jedi Academy is a third person shooter game from 2003 while Jedi Outcast, a 2002 title, is a single player game that also features multi-player modes.

The code of the games was open sourced on Wednesday coincidently the day on which Disney shut LucasArts game studio which was involved with both these games. Both the titles are powered by the Quake III engine with some customizations done by Raven Software. The source code is available under the GPLv2 license.

The minute I saw this, I grabbed it.

Why? Because too often this happens: http://news.softpedi...st-344896.shtml

I really liked these games. Played them over several times. Being able to play then again on future OSes would be awesome.

The hell of it is, the reason they were pulled is because they some wonky, proprietary, video codec. Probably for the cut scenes. To be honest, I could live without most of the cut scenes. In fact, would be thrill if some of theme weren't there at all.
