web developer/designer

Posted 13 April 2013 - 12:07 PM

Does a good code developer(not necessary a web developer)has to be a good designer?
I can write code, but my inner designer is terrible at best.

Only if you're freelancing and doing all the work yourself. Most places will have someone who does the coding and have someone else do the design work.

Even if you're freelancing you can still buy designs to use on your client's project. I knew a guy who would straight up say "You can choose a design from one of these sites and it's price will be added to the bill, or I can make you a custom one for ~$500", says it's worked great so far.

I suppose for a small (solo) project it is important to get the customer involved in the design process as much as possible(?). Get them to choose (or at least agree) colour-sets, fonts, and to provide images. At least they can't (hopefully!) complain too much at completion. But, then again, you might have to put up with them interfering too much.. and changing their mind too often :censored:

Design can be learned. It's a set of rules and well studied principles, ones that can be learned. It takes time, all things do, but you can pull it off.

Find a partner for the time being if the other options above aren't good for you.
