How to update after the web service has been changed ?

Posted 19 April 2013 - 11:50 AM

There is a web service in my website.

But what if I change the reference url of the web service.

Then I deploy this website again.

Could I just update the bin directory without any *.aspx when I want to update this website?

This question is quite vague making it hard to answer properly, however if I am understanding you correctly you are wanting to know if you can change were a web-based application or service is located without changing any of its code. Is that correct?

Assuming it is, that really depends on how the service was programmed in the first place. It is easy enough for a service to think ahead and use a relative path, but it is also quite common that people don't look into the future that far and hard code things. If they are relatively named then there will still be some required path names (such as if you have /my_service/js and you move it to /my_service/new_js you can expect that the javascript won't be linked to in the webpages.

Hopefully that makes sense.

BetaWar,Thanks for your response.

I'm sorry the question is too vague to make you misunderstand.

So let me try to explain it more clear.

My website has included a web service.

Usually , when we want to join a web service , we'll type in the web service's URL at first.

For example , the URL might seem like 「http://www.mysebsite.com/gov.asmx」

But the URL might be changed into 「https://www.mysebsite.com/gov.asmx」 a few months later.

Then I just remove the orginal web service in my website, and rejoin the web service by new URL .

Then I deploy this website again.

So here is my question. If I want to update my website, should I just update the bin directory that I've deployed?
