Yoko Ono and Justin Beiber.

Really, the duet for our time.

Lol I'm not really a Bieber fan, but I did a remix request a little while ago as a request for someone and I mixed him with a female cover band known as Cimorelli and threw in a little dubstep.

I'm more into heavy metal, but I love ALMOST all music  :punk:

I'm surprised that you haven't heard of Coltrane, to be honest. I mostly prefer Jazz guitar, but the sax just speaks sometimes, you know?

I just could NOT get into Animals as Leaders. I'm not sure why, either. Maybe I haven't heard the right song yet?

The kings of jazz guitar are Wes Montgomery and Grant Green. If you want someone more modern, Bill Frisell is all over the map, but when he's good I like him a lot.

As for other jazz, if there's anyone on this list that you're not familiar with, go find their work and get it in your ears. You won't like all of it, but it's sort of basic:

Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Modern Jazz Quartet, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Charles Mingus.

(a very partial list, from the top of my head - not meant to exclude anyone...)
(edit - also, didn't mention people already discussed...)

More modern folks - check out Bill McHenry, John McNeill, Joshua Redman, any combo with Larry Grenadier and/or Jeff Ballard, anyone who has Brian Blade drumming, Broun Fellinis, Steve Coleman.

Maybe it's just not for you :) I will admit there are a few of their songs that sound like a guitar falling down stairs. But I like where my head goes when I listen to the song in think above. Couple faves would be August Burns Red, anything Corey Taylor does, Parkway Drive and I gotta mention Metallica. Naming favorites always makes you feel guilty about the thousands or bands you didn't mention haha. But those were the first to come to mind.

I've been lucky enough to se all my favoirte bands in concert except when I went to see Slipknot for the "Day Off Fest" in Portland ME, they took it literally and "Took the Day off" and show up. :v:

I can't believe that I forgot Charlie Parker AND Dizzy Gillespie! :nervous:/> Oh, man. Wes Montgomery is good and so is Grant Green. My mind is all over the place today and I can't believe I'm forgetting such icons.

Talking Heads is REALLY good! Any favorite songs? Mine are This Must Be The Place and Road To Nowhere.

My favorite hands down is Life During Wartime. Mr. Jones, And She Was, and Road To Nowhere are definitely at the top of that list too.

Since the new folks didn't get my Beiber-Ono joke, and since we haven't had one of these threads in... what?.... 6 months... I'll give a legitimate answer.

I like vocal jazz and 90s alternative and nerd rock and show tunes. Seriously. Ella Fitzgerald, frank Sinatra, nirvana, rem, arrogant worms, they might be giants, the guys and dolls soundtrack, the rent soundtrack.... all good stuff.

If you dig Sinatra, this might knock you out a little.
