Servers with SSDs
Posted 24 April 2013 - 10:05 PM
Just wondering if anyone has ever used a server with solid-state drives, and whether they notice a difference between them and regular drives when it comes to DB interaction / HTML delivery. I've just hired a new server and decided to fork out the extra $5/mo for SSDs, but it's going to take me a while before I can run benchmarks, so I thought I'd strike up some conversation in the meantime

SSD makes load speed 300% faster.
Faster than what? There are so many different HDD choices in common use today that throwing out a single number like that makes no sense. Besides that, SSDs are a completely different technology than old-school magnetic hard drives. It's very hard to make meaningful comparisons between them.
It may well be that your own machines manage to boot 300% faster after replacing whichever old-school hard-drive you had in them with a SSD, but that's far from a definitive benchmark.
