Alternative names for robotic servant

Posted 25 April 2013 - 11:56 AM

I tried googling this and using an online thesaurus to no avail. What I am looking for is an appropriate name for a software robot that you will be able to use to search the Internet once people are able to directly link their minds to the Internet via implants, fMRI, etc. Something like a robotic dog that you tell "fetch the what-ya-ma-callit," and it will go out and get all the information related to the concept it can find.

All good, but none of these are generic (except maybe gopher). Maybe no such word exists yet. So perhaps ya'll can suggest some nonce words that would serve the purpose?

Perhaps if you stopped googling and starting knowing stuff for yourself, life would be easier?

In the book "Old Man's War" all such implanted folks chose rather offensive monikers for the disconcerting voice in their heads. e.g. "Hey, Asshole, fetch the email."

You really are failing the sarcasm here. There hasn't been an original name for such a thing in at least a decade. Apple had to resort to making stuff up: Siri

Name it anything. It doesn't really matter. It will stick or it wont. If it does stick then you pretend it means something in your obscure language of choice.

Just being literal. That's what you're describing: auto-lobotomy on demand.

I actually thought there was a name for such a beast, that it just slipped my mind, and so Google should be right there to return it to mindfulness again. Alas, we are treading on new domain here and whatever "sticks" is a future choice.

Thanks for the reference to Old Man's War, I just ordered a copy on eBay.

BTW, my first choice was membot.
