Reports time out

Posted 26 April 2013 - 01:21 AM

Good day

I have problem that really puzzle me. I wrote a report in visual basic 2008 when I run it it works perfectly. When I copied the report to report sever and run it it works perfectly.

I coded my asp.net application and call the report on a small database with about 500 entries everything shows and doesn't time out.

Problem is when entries the report must show becomes more than 500 the report runs but it stop and just show nothing it is as if it times out. There is no error nothing just stops.

I have no idea what to do? Anyone with any advise please.

Can you show some code? Do you have a timeout on your connection?

Oky in my program I call the report

 Protected Sub cmdRevschedfinal_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles cmdRevschedfinal.Click
        Server.Transfer("Rep_Viewer.aspx?Report=rpt_Low_Comp_Review&RetForm=frm_My_Review_Reports.aspx")
    End Sub

On the Rep Viewer where report must show I have

If Page.IsPostBack Then
        Else
Dim SUrl As String
            Dim SVal As clsDef.SSetting
            SVal = Get_Setting("ReportServer")
            SUrl = "http://" & SVal.SValue & "/"

            SVal = Get_Setting("Reports")
            RepSub = SVal.SValue
            ReportPath = RepSub & Report

            Select Case Report
       Case "rpt_Low_Comp_Review"
                    If ReportPath <> "" Or Not (ReportPath Is Nothing) Then
                        ReportViewer1.ShowParameterPrompts = False
                        ReportViewer1.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Remote
                        Dim svrReport As ServerReport = ReportViewer1.ServerReport
                        svrReport.ReportServerUrl = New Uri(SUrl)
                        svrReport.ReportPath = ReportPath
                    End If
            End Select
        End If

I hope this help and no I have no time out on it just stops like I said in smaller database everything works fine. Larger database it just starts running and then just stop with no error no warning and no data.

have you checked your sql statements to see how long it takes them to run on the larger database? Also what kind of completation and data manipulation do you do within the report. Those two are the biggest culprits to slow reports. Another thing you might want to try is if you have a date field, send it into the database as string and convert it in the stored procedure back to a date. I'm not sure exactly why, but that has helped out at times.

OK I have tried this in matter it works, still on lot of data it just stop working I have change in the report server web.config file this setting to longer like "30000"

<httpRuntime executionTimeout="9000" />

Then on the report it self on server change the setting to never time out.

Then in the asp.net web config file change the timeout to "30000" but still when data to much the report just stop like I said no error no warning nothing it just stop and there is no info displaying so if anyone have any advise please assist.

Regards
