Criminals don't give the average victim enough credit.

Sure, he could have avoided the situation entirely if he hadn't stood so close, but would the victim have understood the situation?

The dumbing-down of mainstream gun violence is a scourge to the attention span of the average victim.

Say what, again?

Reminds me to bump up this book on my reading list: The Gift of Fear and Other Survival Signals that Protect Us From Violence.

What's a tiger claw?

It's a disabling open-handed attack to the throat. Very painful with a low chance of permanent damage. Been almost 15 years since then, that muscle memory is all but gone at this point :(

But I know from driving that I still handle well in an emergency, calm and collected til after the shits done.

@depricated - Huh. So what was the guy's motive? Was he trying to rob you?

Apparently he thought I was stealing out of the trailer beside his house. I had come from the opposite direction of it though. I'm still not clear on what all was up with him, but he got hit with some fines and had his guns confiscated for "brandishing firearms in a residential district" or something weird to that affect. I only know because he blamed me - loudly every time I walked by - for him not being allowed to have his guns. He moved a few years later and I never heard another thing about it.

also: I was nice about it (though the way he acted after the fact I shouldn't have been) - one of the charges I had the option of pressing was assault on a minor, which probably would have really fucked him. I felt like we were even on that since I disarmed him defending myself.

I was commenting on the fact that the shotgun-wielding-fellow found it necessary to stand two feet away from his potential victim, when standing six feet away would have had the same impact. Perhaps he thought that he had to stand close to his victim for him to understand the gravity of the situation.

It's a gun, guns have range, don't stand two feet away from your potential victims.

I was also comparing it to television... Nevermind.

I went on a manhunt once. I just got back from war. I was hitchhiking through Oregon. Next thing I know there's a bunch of cops chasing after me through the woods! I had to take them all out, it was a bloodbath! They drew first blood, not me... they drew first blood.
