I'd probably get into car customization. I just love getting my hands dirty working on metal, engines, spray painting and all that. I really have a passion for it, and at the moment, I'm torn between it. I don't know which one I want to do as a career, I love doing the above, and I love programming.

You mean slum lord?

Nope. Being a slum lord attracts the trouble makers. You'd be working many more hours than 10 per week in the slums. Dealing with poor people who can't or won't pay would be a 40hr per week job, then there's the other trouble like fighting and drugs, etc. Average apartments in middle and working class areas only.

Slum lord doesn't necessarily mean 'in the slums'. A slum lord is just a landlord who is shitty at their job. Places with average apartments in a middle/working class area tend to actually attract slum lords looking for low effort tenants. I've met my fair share of slum lords before buying my house, they tended to be in reasonable neighborhoods. It wasn't until moving in I started realizing they put no effort into their job as landlord, never repaired anything (like the AC), and then blamed me when damages occurred as a result.

"Why is this room flooded?"
"I called you 10 times in the last 4 weeks telling you the AC has been acting weird. You came out once, looked at it, said it worked fine, and refused to answer my calls after that."
"You just lost your security deposit!"
"What? Because YOU are an idiot?"

When I moved out of one place, they tried suing me for 15,000 in damages. Some of which did actually exist, like the kitchen cupboards being destroyed. Thing is they were destroyed because a second hurricane hit, leaked water through the roof, because the landlord didn't take any precautions after shingles were torn up after a previous hurricane.

Thing is said landlord got over zealous and started including damages that didn't exist. Like that I had put a hole in a door to a closet near the front bathroom... a closet that doesn't exist.

I had a friend write up a letter on her office's letter-head. Scared the landlord away right quick.

And I tended to live in good neighbourhoods. Places where I felt safe if I forgot to lock the door. My requirements have always been for it to be within walking distance of a school, post office, and grocery store... in this area that tends to make for a friendly and safe, yet affordable, neighbourhood.

Oh, and if I didn't get into software, probably had died a few years back.

If I decided to leave software... probably get into comedy or writing.

I have always wanted to open a BBQ joint. My town lacks a good BBQ place and it would probably do very well but I am not enough of a risk taker to try it. Everyone who has tried my BBQ loves it and I have tried some of the best here in Texas and don't notice a difference between theirs and mine. Just to big of a risk for me to take at this point. Maybe when I retire.

I probably would've wound up in either the field of Astronomy or Anthropology. I was fascinated by both when I was younger.

Why do I get the feeling there's an insult in there somewhere :glare:/>/>

No insult.

Pure sarcasm.

Because I AM NOT a software engineer.

I AM a web developer.

Calm yourself.

Chef or gunsmith. before I got into programming I was the nerdiest gun person around. I also really like food and cooking.
