Technology's Change of Societal Norms - Ties to Literature?

Posted 15 May 2013 - 07:44 AM

Hello Everyone! For my English Composition II course with Columbia College, I was tasked with writing a 2500 word Research Paper - Full MLA Format, Prospectus, Annotated Bibliography, and Works Cited (Yuck!). The outlay of my subject matter is the world today, and how technology has changed our societal norms.

I've read several excellent studies on the subject and almost have the word count, all that I am missing is one small piece that my teacher continues to harass me about: A tie-in to Literature.

Does anyone know of good examples in Literature I could reference to demonstrate how technology has changed today's society? Famous authors who mention the subject in their work, or even works that expand on the subject?

Any help with this tie-in would be greatly appreciated! ^^

Hard to suggest anything without knowing what you're getting at in your paper.

Thanks for the reply jon. I don't believe I've ever heard of ESR before, but a quick Google took me where I believe you were pointing. Below is a copy of a good portion of my Rough Draft:

Sounds awesome! I do miss doing research papers and purring as I force my groups to review them, and then blowing the teacher's hair back with some awesome writing.

A little broad there.. considering this is what - a little over eight pages of content?

I know, right?! I mean eight pages isn't nearly enough room. So it's write, write, write, and then cut, cut, cut.. and then write some more.. cut more.. Ugh.. the evils of word economy.

If you have any interest in my rough draft, I've copied it above in my reply to jon.

It's an interesting up and down roller coaster lol. My instructor mentioned she used to do page counts, but some higher-than-high higher-ups decided she needs to base all her papers off so many thousand word count for the Session.

Thanks for the great sounding suggestions! The "Ware Tetralogy" and "Cryptonomicon" definitely caught my attention.

FYI there's, typically, about three hundred words on a page given a standard one-inch margin, times new roman, size 12 font, and double spaced. ;)

That's basically our standard: 1in Margins, Times New Roman 12, Double Spaced, Paragraph Spacing "After" 0pt, etc.

Yes Sir. That is a direct copy from MS Word, with some carriage returns added to help denote the paragraphs on here.

No.. I just dumped it it word and cranked on 'track changes' with liberal use of 'new comment'.

Oh FFS. Really? How else do you pass around changes, review edits, and have a 'repo' of sorts for a doc? ugh.
