Positioning a picture or other object on a website without using a div

Posted 19 May 2013 - 04:41 PM

I am working on my website for my game servers http://easynexus.com/ under the live map tab im trying to position the map in the middle. Right now its on a div. Since ap divs are never in the same spot for different browsers id like to not use a div and just position it manually. Ive never done this before. The site design i got from a free template.
this is the code i need positioned
<iframe src="http://panzer.servegame.com:8123/" width="641" height="336"></iframe>

oh and also i dont want to use the center code because it needs to be in a certain spot on the page that isnt exactly in the center

Hello there,

From what it looks like the template you are using has a terrible table design which makes placing objects a real pain in the backside! I would suggest perhaps creating your own website so you can control things like this better, it will make it easier to place things such as the DynMap iFrame object as well as avoid using flash objects that most people find annoying!

Yes, Flash is annoying! Here's what the site looks like on my system. I rarely Click to Flash.

Well, think about it this way: Click to Flash is just one of many flash blockers available because many people want it blocked. What's more, there are hundreds of millions of tablets and phones that will not run flash at all, and those that will run it don't fair very well. Even for laptop users, Flash will waste battery power and annoy them.

By using Flash you make your site effectively inaccessible to all of those phones and tablets and risk turning the users away from using your site at all. Look into HTML5. It's the future for web development, so start now.

I think Kruithne answered that in post #2.

Why do you think a div would be positioned differently in different browsers? Are you using css?

well when u just drag something into the div box and position the div by using the designer it appears differently in different browsers
so i want to do it with the actual code insted so it appears the same in all browsers and yeah im using css

compatibility issues i suppose

You really shouldn't use a designer like it sounds you are, dragging something over a template that will just end badly. Take up my advice, learn basic HTML and CSS, and just design your own website from scratch, it will work out so much better for you in the long run.
