Xbox One vs PS4

With the Xbox One officially revealed, which product interest you more? Sony's sudden interest in indie developers comes as a surprise during a time when Microsoft stops offering as much support(discontinuation of XNA,indie devs no longer able to self publish with Xbox One). How does that affect your perception of either platform?

I'd say wait till E3. A lot of people were disappointed with the Xbox One reveal and there's speculation that the big guns are going to be brought out at E3.

Either way, it may just be me but I feel the console gaming scene has diminished. Most of the friends I know that game do so on the PC now, and I can play with them through Steam. A good PC is the next thing I'm investing in.

I'm also primarily a PC gamer, but if I was to buy a next-gen console, it would probably be a PS4. I can't even imagine paying Microsoft every month solely for the ability to play games online.

Xbox One. Seriously?

I'm not much into the console gaming world, but I'm of the opinion that whoever decides product names around that place needs a serious bitch-slapping. (Or to be forced to complete some basic math education... Like some basic toddler-level math education.)

P.S.
You forgot an option in your poll: Neither ;)

PS4 for sure.

Two big features on the XBox that turned me off the idea of buying it:

1. Cannot play used games.
2. Pay for online play.

One area that the Xbox One does one-up the PS4 in is the ability to play games in 4k resolution. This feature looks very enticing but considering the amount of time it's going to take for this feature to be fully utilized, I'm not sure it's worth the wait.

Wouldn't you need a freakishly large TV to see any actual difference between 1080p and 4k? I don't know, it seems a little excessive to me. - But on the other hand, 1080p once, not to long ago, seemed a little excessive to me, so maybe I'm just slow :)

Have either of those really been confirmed though? Just skimming some of the news content from the last two days, it seems highly contradictory. Some say games are lock into a machine, some into an account, and some that they can be shared.

Apparently not. It's the same problem Microsoft has. Both computers are moving between architectures (to x86_64) making the old stuff unusable.

I don't see what the big deal with these consoles are anyway. Just hook a PC up through HDMI and get a wireless mouse/joystick + keyboard. Then you're not at Microsoft's/Sony's/Nintendo's mercy when it comes to support for things. Hell, you can probably hook an actual Xbox/PS controller up to the PC if you can't manage without it.

The PS4 simply looks better, but I'm just basing my vote off of what I have seen.

I will always prefer PC no matter what. It's fully backwards compatible, and has steam. Quite frankly, what else do I really need?

Not all PS3's are 100% backwards compatible. From what little research that I have done through repairs, the initial PS3's were backwards compatible, by quite literally having the PS2 board integrated into the PS3 motherboard. This didn't help heating issues, & eventually units were overheating & the backwards compatibility was removed.

Again, I'm no expert in the matter, & if I'm wrong, please provide documentation or links :)

*snip*

as far as i understand it, you are 100% correct.

backwards compatibility is a farce anyway. just play ps3 or 360 games on your ps3 or 360. i don't get upset my pc doesn't take punch cards or floppy discs anymore. my ipod doesn't play vinyls? what a farce!

i'll get a x1 for sure. prolly not at launch unless a game comes out i MUST have. (destiny might be that game).

i'll get a ps4 when it has enough exclusives i want to play to justify it.
