Been away for so long

Posted 24 August 2007 - 02:26 PM

Hey folks,
Been a while. I'm still renovating my place (5th month now).
I should be on a bit more now but I don't think I'm going to even try catching up. I think I'm gonna go with the flow and let it all iron out by itself ;)

While renovating I've got two good freelance jobs. One for the theater my wife works at and the other one of the most important theaters in Poland. w00t. Both want exactly the same ting so I'm doing the Flash+php+mySQL skeleton on one, and will change the graphic for the other lol Easy money (sorta).

Anyway... have missed y'all.
Peter

PS: I got a dog! English setter named Ralph ;) Check him out here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/piosko/

it's weird, while you were gone i got married, had 3 children, sent them all off to college, they all dropped out and became strippers (yes, even the dudes) one of them has a coke addiction, and another a physically handicapped child that they use to pick up chicks (they rotate days of the week). also, i retired and moved to florida, america's dong which all evil travels thru.

We bought an apartment in a 70 year old building... The place is awesome but falling apart. Previous owners did patch-up jobs on everything.

We started of with knocking down one wall to make a larger bathroom... then replaced 70 year old electric wires with a brand new system with circuit breakers and all.. that was a must lol

Walls were stripped of paint, however some of the walls were in such a state that part of the wall would drop off right down to bare brick.. I mean it was like they painted on sand... so some walls had to be plastered and reinforced with special liquid...

Three rooms are 100% done... together with doing the floors which had to be sanded down and treated and painted with schelaque or whatever it's called.

Now they're doing my wifes study, hallway (12m long) and kitchen.. while finishing off the bathroom.

So yeah. It's been quite a ride.

You can see it all on my flickr page: http://www.flickr.co...57594092590516/

There's going o be new photos uploaded today or tomorrow.

It's very weird, I know. I feel I must explain though. You see we didn't have much choice and really, this IS the best that could have been done. The piping that goes through these buildings was done 70yrs ago. The neighbour above us, has pipes coming out of our ceiling. Just like our pipes come out of the ceiling of the neighbours below us. You can see this in this picture:

http://www.flickr.co...57594092590516/

These pipes CANNOT be moved unless you have deep pockets (or fat wallet.. whatever). Why was it done like this? I have no friggin' idea. What I do know is that the hole to our dunny cannot be moved and therefore our toilet has to be in that spot! :D

What we did was we built the flush system inside the front wall of the block and left space for the clothes washer to fit.. which is also cool because then our clothes washer will be hidden...

So, we'll have no visible pipes, a nice toilet, hidden washer and a brand new LARGER bathroom... with weirdness.

It was actually lacquer. I found out later.

circuit breaker: This might be another technical name I fucked up... The electrictian did it :P I mean the safety switch which cuts of the power in micromillimini seconds should anything fuzz up...

The previous installation had 1 safety switch connected to the whoooole house which had pre-war wires... basically a very thin wire insulated with string lol. I would have to turn off the computer in order to make coffee :D That was a no-brainer when deciding to install new wires.
