creation of text based games, how to and other advises

Hi, I'm Phoenix Black.

I am working on various projects for games but many are still only bits and pieces. The summer has started and I'm taking on one of my projects with hopes to release it this summer.

I'm writing a script for a text based game and, since I have only C++ basic coding knowledge, I wanted to get some advise witch language would be the best for the thing.

The game will be a non browser one, the text will have it's own style, positioning and the game will include sound.
I want that the text wouldn't be just simple text given, but I could change it's position and look as well as still allow the person to write it. Also there should be sound, my own of course. I want that some lines that the player would insert would play a specific audio file, some audio files would be looped and played at the same time, for example character words and background music. There should as well be a time counter as in how much time the player has to do something otherwise something happens etc.

These are the basic things that the coding language should fulfill.

So on to the question. Which is the best one to use in this case? I thought maybe flash would be good for this as I could have all the sounds and design. I'm willing to learn any coding language if it's good.

Sure.. java, flash, c++, c#, vb.net, etc could handle those options. If you want to go a new route and pick up flash - then go right a head!

Now then, I'm browsing through flash and am quite lost. What should I get?

It's just that I've started searching where and how to code on flash. Now there's a thing I forgot to mention. The software should be freeware, meaning I don't ave to buy it or anything, so I could produce the game. My question is - what software should I get? Like more concrete, because I'm a little lost here.
