Hello, I'm Axel

Posted 29 May 2013 - 08:20 AM

So, I'm Axel.
Almost finished my first year in university.
I'm 19 years old, and live in Belgium

This year I was in engineering.
But now, I really started doubting between Chemical engineering and Computer Science.
We need to chose our specialization in our second year.
I'm a bit more attracted to Computer science than Software engineering.

At the moment I'm leaning more towards Computer Science.
Because of my awesome professor I really got interested in Computer Science. (he teached us Python)

I also like to do some programming in my free time. I like it. (but it's not like I don't do anything else).
Right now I'm working on a little project.
I'm partially trying to recreate the project I (and other students) had to make for my class of programming.
We had to make a field, with a couple (randomly chosen) fields that we called dirty.
Then a robot had to clean those fields. And then ofcourse we made the GUI.

I changed my programming language to Java. I like it a bit more because it's more OO (or this might be an illusion).
I'm trying to make a field with 2 different non-blank squares (1 obstructed block, which the robot has to avoid and 1 enemie/dirty square which the robot had to destroy/clean).
The robot has a limited view and has to do the pathfinding, etc on its own.
And finally display this in the GUI (where I can set the Size of the field, the number of obstructions, ect).

It is going pretty well, it' just not so easy (the pathfinding/AI is where I'm now).
I came here to learn more and ask some questions, and perhaps I might stick around. :)

What else could I tell?
My hobby's? Well, there aren't that many hobby's. Like I said I do program in my free time.
I'm involved into 2 Strenght sports (Olympic weightlifting and Powerlifting).
But I can't train that much because of not enough time.

I don't go out, I don't drink. I'm a bit shy. I have green eyes. Brownish hair. 5 foot 7.
Oh, what, is that to much information?

Well then, this is me. ;)
Nice to meet this forum.

Welcome, looking forward to seeing you in the java forums. I don't know much about AI, so it'll be interesting to see what sorts of things you're working on.

Thank you.

When my first prototype is ready I'll post it in the "share your project" section.
