How the reputation changes of a member

Posted 30 May 2013 - 08:05 AM

Hi. I've been seeing a variety of badges/ reputations and colorful rectangles below the member name in the entire forum. Mine is red this time with -1 reputation, what is red means and what is -1? Please guide me for these rules.

Look at your profile. On the left hand side you will see 'view reputation received'. Click on that. You can review what rep was received by which member and for what topic.

Also at the bottom of every page is the FAQ. It helps explain the whole shebang.

This is really nice feature of this forum. I got it now. Thank you modi. Bundles of thanks for guiding me.

one more thing Modi, the badges awarded to members, are also basing upon the good reputation received and upon the more interactions with threads? Right?

Badges are issued to recognize contributions ("Expert", "Mentor"), to indicate administrative roles ("Forum leader", "Moderator", "Admin"), or sometimes just for funsies ("Brogrammer").

Don't spend too much time thinking about them - they're just a sidebar to the main purpose of the site, which is to talk to people about programming and technology.

Badges are a varied with meaning and ways to earn. The major ones are like 'admin, mod, mentor, forum leader', etc are for folks who have been promoted up from a regular user after finding them super duper helpful and what not in their respective forums.

Then there's the dic++ badge for folks who paid for a membership to DIC.

Then there are vanity badges for participating in special events, being in the right topic at the right time, or so on. They are there to look swanky.

Over all yes - folks who play nice with others and help those around the forum are generally viewed more favorably than people who do not participate or are generally not pleasent.
