You said I wouldn't be making money on my first product, rightly so, so what guarantee would there be even 10 people used it, let alone 10,000? Besides, the more likely scenario is taking my work to a potential employer, who will see the value and work in both situations.

Make a game, get it on the Play site, and see what happens. Android is selling 100 million phones in a quarter - that's a lot of people looking at Google Play, trying to find something cool. If 1 in 10,000 of the people who buy a phone in the next three months find your game, there's your 10,000 users. It's actually kind of a low bar to get over.

And who knows, with ad revenue there might even be some money made - but that's incidental to this stage. Right now we're talking about "get it out the door and see if you can make something people like".

Please read this guy's site. He is very approachable and might give you some ideas that are proven to work, or tell you otherwise.

Thanks for the site. He seems like a consultant? (Which I cannot afford.) Or I should just be reading over this advice?

I think you're meant to read over what he says. He seems to have said a lot, and what I looked at seemed quite sound.

Exactly, read over his site. He hangs out on places like the IGDA forums and gamedev.net if you want free (under 'Tom Sloper). I spoke to and listened to him a lot when I was finding my way into games. He has helped out a lot of people including me. :)
