E3 2013

Posted 10 June 2013 - 11:47 AM

Well, I am a little surprised to see that there isn't already a thread on this, but for those of you not in the know E3 2013 started up today with Microsoft's press release (watch the recorded one here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hub). Tonight at 5:30 PCT is Sony's press release. Nintendo isn't having a press release for whatever reason.

Key titles they showed off (as far as I am concerned):
Halo 5(?)
Battlefield 4
Metal Gear Solid (something)
TitanFall
What Lies Below

So that was interesting. What are your thoughts? Wishes? Looking forward to games? Which ones? Sad to see yet another of a title? Discuss.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

seemed like a pretty solid launch timeframe line-up, all things considered. since those are usually shit.

$500 is a little pricey, i'll prolly get it after the first price drop, or after i gather up some gift cards.

While I agree that the price was a little higher than I originally expected it would be, I can't say that it is out of line with the product we are getting. If you look at it this way:
Xbox 360 (at release): ~$300
Kinect (at release): $150

XboxOne (with Kinect): $500

That comes out to only about a $50 markup on the previous console prices for lesser hardware. While not great, it isn't outside the realm of what they can ask for it. Plus I believe that the console it far more worthy of asking $500 than a tablet.

I'll be interested to see what Sony reveals tonight on their press conference. While I am not a Sony fan it is always interesting to see how the companies are moving.

It was all pretty much as was expected apart from the pricing.

$499 which is already steep somehow gets converted to 429 over here in the UK. Unless I'm missing something there is something seriously wrong with this. I expect to be paying a bit more over here than I would in the US, but $499 = 320. Paying 429 amounts up to $670. It's not a small difference at all.

Feels like someone at Microsoft has been reading up on the pricing schemes that Adobe have been using.

Will be interesting to see what Sony can come up with, although I expect it will be around the same price mark sadly.

I also thought Battlefield 4 looked good. Even if it was footage from a PC :P

It would be unusual for them not to have included it already - they normally do. But even with it added on it's still another ~10% difference.

the 360 was actually $400 at launch, the $300 was for the bullshit core version with no hard disk and only SD video cables.

Just announced - the PS4 will have no used games DRM and you will not have to be checked in online every 24 hours to play.

And it looks as though you will now have to pay to play online multiplayer on the PS4, just like you do with Xbox Live.

PS4 priced at $399/£329.

Has this swayed anyone on which console they will get?

Don't even know what Microsoft was thinking with this one... Like honestly... They practically gave up with this. The huge amount of DRM? The lack of privacy? Heck last I checked their major points for the console were TV, Call of duty, Sports, Tv, television, Call of duty, and tv....

You know you've lost when your opponent says they support something as basic as trading games, and the crowd goes wild. GG Microsoft.

Game trading is a good topic for a philosophical debate.

It hurts the gamer to disallow it - you buy a game, play it to death, you should be able to sell something at a reduced price if you aren't going to use it anymore.
It hurts the developers to allow it - for every resale of a used game is potential sales that the developer has lost.

They're both hurting someone in a stupid popularity contest. (And I get that this is business).

I think that games should be traded in to the company that made them for a reduced amount. Sort of like a "Sorry our game was not good enough" gesture.
What about developers offering the used versions of their game at a reduced price? Works for both the developer and the gamer.

Only problem there is how to you keep the retailers alive?

So I can't really tell who's the bad guy and who's the good guy. I can only tell who's hurting me - and that means what I think is just a biased opinion.

Yay for the drawn out car analogies, but I suspect there would be similar annoyance if you had to deal with the manufacturer to buy a used car. They got their piece when the car was sold new.
