Tried to download Monodevelop...

Posted 13 June 2013 - 01:27 PM

I recently went to the MonoDevelop website to download it and all I could find was a Xamarin studio installation. I know that Xamarin studio uses MonoDevelop as a code base but I never thought the two actually merged. Could somebody explain to me what is going on?

From the site:

Introducing Xamarin Studio

Read Article. Xamarin Studio is an IDE based on MonoDevelop, which provides additional features to create projects for iOS and Android. This article is a nice overview of the IDE.

Over time, the MonoDevelop project was absorbed into the rest of the Mono project and is actively maintained by Xamarin and the Mono community. Since Mono 1.0 Beta 2, MonoDevelop is bundled with Mono releases.
MonoDevelop on non-Linux platforms

MonoDevelop can also be used on the Windows and Mac OS X platforms. Both platforms have been officially supported since version 2.2,[8] and Xamarin offers a rebranded version of MonoDevelop 4.0 as Xamarin Studio which now uses platform-specific code in various places to enhance the look & feel.[9]
