problem in data report display

Posted 14 June 2013 - 07:37 AM

Hi

You had mistaken me as i had not asked for any code.

I again describe my problem.

I design data report though data environment
adding connection and 2 sql commands parent command 1 and child command2.
command 1 = select * from customer where ccode=?
command 2 = select Q.ccode,D.pcode,P.pname,D.desc,D.price from Quotation Q,PartDesc D,Parts P where Q.ccode=? and Q.dcode=D.dcode and D.pcode=P.pcode

then i take data report and design the whole as per requirement
data source = dataenvironment
data member = command1

placing the required field on data reports section.

On form, i call below procedure after saving the data which shows data report and got print.

Public Sub PrintQuote()
    Load DataEnvironment1
    DataEnvironment1.Command1 CInt(Trim(Me.txtCustCode.Text))
    DataReport1.Show
    Unload DataEnvironment1
End Sub

but it will say error "report width is larger than paper width".

i always find difficult how to get print for anything.

suggest.where i had made mistake.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

I tried but of no help.

Moreover if i change print preference to landscape it works but not in landscape.

Any other solution to this.
My project is struck at only this thing.

Hi again

Well i think this is going nowhere.

I had one plan to design my report, please tell me if this is possible and also good practice or not.

I will design one word document or excel worksheet according to required format and send data from vb to it and print it out.

Question arises which is best option "word or excel".
should i design report first in word or excel and send data thru vb.
or do everything from vb code

Do reply.

I would personally prefer Excel to Word for this. You can automate Excel from VB and pass data into it. You can also do the whole thing from Excel using Excel VBA. Andy (andrewsw) knows more about Excel VBA than I do, maybe he'll weigh in with this.

Another alternative is to use Crystal Reports.

Thanks @Bob ;) but I don't have enough information to offer advice currently.

Besides, I still think the rendered width of the report is too wide. Try removing a couple of fields (columns) temporarily.

Hi all

Sorry for being absent for long period.

I want to share what i did with my project.
First, i add new data report in my project and before doing anything on it, i adjust the width property to 9495 and left-right margin to 720 and only then proceed further.
it work well till now.
Second, i provide an excel workbook as an output for every customer, user enter and save so that he can even look up and print the detail if required in future.

Now,i had given a little changes in the program which the user noticed.
These are small and i can do it easily. Like, there is requrement of decimal number at one place where only number is given by me.
all the changes are only code change, no change required in database tables.

Pleae guide me for below points:
i will make change in code in my project .
But how to install the same at user's computer.

Should i make new SETUP and install the same at user's place.
Need to confirm that new SETUP will remove the existing data from tables or not.
If yes then what will be done..

Second, in future,if case arises to change in database tables then how one can install new things in existing project so that old records will remain save......

Thanks Himanshoo
