I want to get a chat room for my website any suggestions?

Posted 14 June 2013 - 05:23 PM

Ok here is what I want or prefer. I would prefer it to have video chat though this is not 100% essential. I'm not against paying for one but I want a one time payment.

I notice a lot of sites have a ridiculous monthly payment agreement. I want something on MY OWN SERVER. What have people here used or recommend?

userplane (userplane.com)

it's free, and you just embed it in your site - user logs in and it opens in a new window. You have the ability to do private chats, as well as public. You can do a paid version, but it's not necessary.

I've always preferred back-linking off an irc chat room. There are plenty still left (freenode, efnet) & there are plenty of plugins to use them.

Double win.

I'm using IRC as one person suggests but I've looked at userplane and read this message on their bloc

I regret to inform you that we are shutting down Userplane, effective on August 1, 2013. We are sending you this notice in advance to facilitate communication with your users and the orderly winding down of any Userplane features that you may be using in your business. On August 1, 2013, those features will cease to function; thus, we will not be renewing any contractual arrangements that would require us to furnish service past that date. We will, however, be providing service up to August 1, 2013, and accepting payments for those services from licensed customers.

Looks like they are shitting down

Well that sucks. They have a REALLY cool interface that allows for A/V chat and docking certain people. Oh well. I guess I can close my account.

*sigh*

You could code your own and try this. You might have to look a little bit more into the video chat thing though.
