website security / data protection

Posted 16 June 2013 - 09:52 AM

help needed.
I've written a couple of website applications for a mate and his boss has asked "to discuss how they conform to data protection legislation.".
do you know anything about this type of thing to advice me? if not, where can I go to find out.
i can tell you, the website is hosted on GoDaddy, written in asp.net, encrypted passwords needed to log on, uses a mySQL database to store data, stores staff details ( names , addresses etc )
any help is very appreciated
ps. Im in the UK

Start by get ahold of the actual data protection legislation.
What has your country legislated as requirements?
For example: User ID's (ticket numbers) at theme parks can't be consecutive upon entering the park because its easy for a petaphile to figure if he is 12345 then the little girl in front of him is 12344

So find out what your country requires. Google.co.uk might be a starting point.

Then when you have the list of requirements, go through them as related to your code and see if you are addressing each one.
