Different memory usage each execution

Posted 18 June 2013 - 01:13 PM

I was checking how much memory an almost empty c++ SFML project would take up (just an SFML\Graphics include, and system("pause") call). This is running in release mode. However, I noticed that it would be one of either 692K, 696K, or 700K.

While I'm not interested in memory usage for this application, I'm intrigued as to know why. I believe I have noticed the same thing with my java applications in the past.

What is the cause for the slight variance in memory usage?
