Glad you got it working BBeck, unfortunately (as much as I wold like to) I can't describe the process of setting up SDL in all IDE's; which is the reason that I chose just one. There are other issues coming in from the first chapter because the SDL2 framework is still in development and they are adding different project files that I did not have access to. I knew that the set up would be a tricky part of the book but that is why it is not a beginners book.

Anyway, glad you're enjoying it :)/>

Yes you can - just host a selection of projects on Github for various configurations. Several others do that and update accordingly as platform revisions emerge. :)

That is not describing the process. And also, I don't have to as the SDL wiki and other such sources already do it. :)

Not describing the process? You shouldn't have to. Your readers should be able to follow setup instructions from somewhere anyway and it would be nice to have a selection from a repo to get them coding quickly, or use the tools recommended in the book if using the newest platforms/APIs cause significant issues.

Does your book point readers to the SDL resources and other recommended sources?

That's my point, the book describes one process and points to other places. Explicitly saying that other platforms and IDE's will require different steps to set things up.

I'm talking about making your book accessible, yours is not the only SDL book out there.

It is accessible :online2long:/>

I'm just saying that I do explain that other IDE's and setups will require different steps and that I can't cover them all. I could create a repo and maybe I will some day.

...And actually, it is the only SDL2 book out there.

Please read back what I said, I didn't say 'cover them all' I said offer 'various configurations'. That hopefully means that you will offer at least one for Windows, Linux and Mac at least.

Even if your book is the only SDL2 one out there, it doesn't mean you can slack it means that you should take advantage of the situation and make your book your book as good as it can be, grabbing those early sales. I'm pretty sure that you won't be the only SDL2 book out there for long, and I would be wondering why other authors appear to be taking their time releasing a title for this version of SDL.

I just bought your book stayscrisp. It should be here roughly Friday - Wednesday. I am quit eager to read it :) Even though I am focusing with 3D, this will be great reading and learning material.

Congrats stayscrisp! I was always a fan of your SDL tutorials here on DIC and would point to the frequently. I'm happy to hear of your publication and wish you all the success in the world.

Thanks Martyr2! I was finally able to hack a near by wireless signal from the dungeon they've been keeping me in. I hope to be able to get out more transmissions.
