Department of Labor Apprentice Computer Programmer

Posted 25 June 2013 - 09:32 PM

Assuming that one is a competent programmer. Would a Computer Programmer Apprentice certificate from the Department of Labor be a good bullet to add to a resume? I know that it can't hurt, but I am curious to know if it would give you an edge over the next programmer applying for the job.

A cert is a cert is a cert unless you know how to apply what you learned to get said cert. Are you able to demonstrate your knowledge? If so then yes..

Yes I'm sure it will add some value, but what I mean to ask is has anyone heard of this in the programming world? In your eyes, how much value does it add? Assuming you are a good programmer. Worth the effort? It requires 4,000 hours of documented training/experience. If you have not heard of it then I am happy to get the word out on another way to improve ones resume.

There's a few things that are going to catch the eye of anyone who's hiring. Unfortunately they're different for each one so you have to assume nobody's heard of your particular cert set.

If you can provide a link which explains - briefly and convincingly - why this is a good cert to have, slip that in with your resume. (and also drop it off here so we can give you more feedback)
