Website Database Implementation and Presentation

Posted 27 June 2013 - 07:07 AM

I am doing a project that involves a database on a website. An example would be a company that uses a website to log new users and store other information about them. This would all be cloud based. Now I am decent with Oracle SQL, VB, Java, C++, HTML, CSS. I can also figure my way around Jscript and PHP; i am just really new to them. I am just having trouble figuring out how to get all these to work together to do what I'd like to do. I'd like to also be able to make this viewable by others without any additional software. What I'm asking for is help getting started. I am confident I can do all the coding myself, it's just the big picture I am having trouble with. Thanks.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

That's a pretty big topic area.. depending on the server you can use ASP.NET (which feeds into your VB.NET skills), or just operate with PHP as your server code. You would need a database - so that is probably MYSQL (or what every our cloud provider has).

I would suggest hitting up the tutorial sections and seeing about php is used to interact with a database. It's not that bad once you get the syntax down.. if you can query a database then you are mostly there to getting an insert and update done.. which is totally user admin sort of work, right?

I would imagine. I'll try the PHP thing. I know I've done a few database/VB projects near the end of last semester in school and it was pretty easy. We just never got around to going from moving it from the local Visual Studio to placing it online somehow. Thanks, though, I'll check it out.
