i always thought java and .Net is biggest player in market. Apart from PHP and ASP.NET which are the other languages is used for web development .
which are used for desktop environment ?

in my PHP is more famous because of its free of cost and more help on desktop and most of the compnies are of small scale.

Damn. You beat me to it.

I actually came into this thread expecting to see people commenting on which foreign languages were commonly heard around where they live, but no... It was much too sensible for that.

I mean, programming languages, discussed on a programming forum??? Really? I'm disappointed :P

I'm going to say VB, because Ohio is still living in the 90's. Also, Java, .NET, and a little C++ I think.

In educational institutions in my country, you're spoonfed VB until the teacher thinks it's time for Java. I never learned well in my school's programming curriculum, far too boring, no direction or purpose in what they teach.
