Uploading Client File to Server

Posted 30 June 2013 - 09:02 PM

I am actually using an ASP.NET application to upload file.

I have an ASP.NET FileUpload which allows the user to browse the file to upload.

My problem is, there should be a default directory and filename to be uploaded. Either it is displayed in the input box or the user will leave the input box blank to get the default file.

ASP.NET could not read the default file so I resorted to javascript.

I researched a simple ActiveX code but it does not work.

Kindly teach me how to save Client-side excel file to the server.

Main browser to be used is IE. For some users ho encounter error in IE, we allow them to use google chrome. There are forums that say ActiveX only works on IE. Is that true?

Also, no excel application is installed in server. I also read that it will only work if excel is installed.

I only know javascript basics but I have lots of experience programming in .NET languages. I hope you could help.
