Web page alignment

Posted 03 July 2013 - 04:26 PM

Why is it that some web pages in a site "shift" to the site a few pixels when a larger image is inserted? This mostly happens when I set the container div to have max width of some amount. All the other pages will have the same exact alignment, but that one page with the large (if that) image will be off slightly.

It is possible that the image is larger than the images on the other pages causing the div to go to its max-width even though the remainder of the design isn't made for that width. It is also possible that there is padding or margins in other containers causing problems (the image for example, or the container in which the div is housed).

Without seeing some code it would be very difficult to correctly guess the cause of the problem though.
