Go to job interviews and wait for them to call you back.

The amount of time from submitting your application to accepting your job offer will vary from company to company but typically takes at least a month and typically will take a few months.

Personally, I've only held internships and graduate student positions so I'm not sure those count, but I've never had any jobless downtime.

A good friend of mine is rarely out of a job for more than 2-4 weeks, and has only really left anywhere because he felt that he wasn't growing there any more. He's a Senior DevOps guy with some crazy experience, so that does play a major part.
