Asus DVD Drive Drivers

Posted 09 July 2013 - 12:24 PM

Hi, I just built a computer and I am trying to install Windows 7 on it. During the installation it is asking for the drivers for the DVD-RW Drive. I tried downloading them, but in the .zip it gives me, all it has is a .exe file which is not a driver. When I open the .exe on my computer, it says that the part is not found on my computer (which it is not). So, I was wondering if anyone new of where I could just download the driver.

Asus DRW-24B1ST Internal Drive
Windows 7 64-bit

A few things.. windows 7 should auto recognize any cd drive as a generic component.

Did you get that .EXE from here?

I did get it from there. Although, I just looked under the Windows XP folder instead of 7 and it gave me a .ini, but it still didnt work. For some reason Windows 7 is not recognizing the DVD drive.

Have you tried the Vista drivers? Is the light coming on in the drive? Are you sure the SATA cables are done right?

Well, I am booting Windows 7 from a DVD... and I downloaded the XP .zip file, but it does not give me drivers (.sys), it gives me .exe(s) which it wont recognize as drivers in Windows 7.

Have you considered the EXE is just an installer, and you should double click to run it?

I have tried that, but on my computer a messageBox pops up and says that the hardware was not found. When I try on the computer I am install Windows 7 on, the .exe does not even show up. But, I am sure that it is an installer, I just need to get past this step in the installation process to be able to open it.

... so you just double click the exe? In theory it should extract the files to a folder.. or have you simply tried clicking 'find driver' from the computer's system control panel?

It wont let me extract the folder when I browse for the driver. And when I scan for the drivers, it does not find it.

... so what - nothing happens when you double click on it?

Does your controlpanel -> system -> device manager even show the drive or even a borked drive in?

This whole setup isn't making sense. Is this some sort of cracked copy? If your media is what you are doing the install from it would stand to reason that it is reading from the drive and doesn't need drivers.

No, this is not a cracked copy. I just got off the phone with Asus and they do not provide downloadable drivers. Microsoft has no idea why it is saying that. I am gonna try and redownload the iso and start over.

Download an I so for drivers? Seems a bit excessive.
