Where do you code? Are you a nomad of sorts?

Posted 10 July 2013 - 02:38 AM

Topic, simply. Where is your typical setting for your program development, and why do you prefer said environment? This can obviously be your office, cafe, wherever. Discuss.

When I'm coding at work, I'm in my office. When I'm coding at home, I'm at the kitchen table.

There are a lot of these threads popping up lately. Where do you code, what do you drink while you code, what do you code on etc.

No offense, but why does it matter? As if knowing how or where people code is information that is going to change your life in any way? Unless we have a multimillionaire coder who is working in a pool at the top of a skyscraper, where people code isn't going to be THAT interesting to warrant a thread.

I don't mean to rant, it's just my honest opinion.

I program - out of work - in the local strip club.

Side note - the topics recently have a whole "What do you people eat?" vibe.

agree 100%
personally i view it as an ice breaker like someone trying to learn more about someone else....total rejection of a query like this usually means you are not very socialable.....

Or just something to chat about. No harm in it.
When I'm working on personal stuff, I either use my desktop machine in my office or I hang out in the living room on my laptop. Hardly ever really work in coffee shops -in my world, coffee shops are for reading.

Novel idea here, kids... but if you're sick of these types of topics... don't. post. in. them.

It's really that simple.

Do they get annoying? Yes. Why? Because a lot of us have been here for years answering the same getting-to-know-you questions over and over and over again. But for our new population, it's a novel thing... learning about the grizzled old Lounge vets and newcomers alike.

These threads come and go in cycles. We'll get a round of new members who post "What do you like to eat?" "What music do you listen to?" "What color are your underpants?" threads... and then they die off for a while. I only really get agitated when people don't look through recent threads before posting and start dupes.

Given the recent lack of activity in the Lounge, I would much rather see threads like this and people actually posting than to see a wall of inactivity.

Just my two cents. Spend it how you will.
