My two favorite countries have always been Canada and Australia. Provided I had a decent job and a good salary. I would stuck between these two. Gotta choose between a cold climate and satanic insects

Hm, before I would be able to choose where I would want to live I would have to visit more places. I really enjoyed Hawaii when I was there. Florida was nice too but I wouldn't want to live there. New Orleans was cool, but not my style either (especially as I get older since it appears to be more about the parties). Will be visiting California for a day or two in September, but I don't know if that will be enough time to make my decision for there.

I would love to visit Japan, parts of China, Europe, Italy, etc.

In general, I think I would likely wind up staying somewhere in the US.

In my mind paradise is drinking spiced rum out of a coconut in a hammock in a Caribbean paradise with a smiley hula-hula girl playing a ukulele(well preferably a violin) maybe with a laptop on my belly; and why would one not move to paradise?

Canada. Unlike the U.S., it has a civilized health care system, and it is consistently ranked as one of the best countries in which to live.

I've always been interested in Toronto if I were to consider Canada.

I'm from Florida but lived in and around the Toronto area for about 13 years during my high school, university days. You can call it a civilized health care system only because you've never actually used it. It used to be good several decades back (OHIP was quite good when I lived there) but it's a mess these days. The care you receive is on par with what you'd find in most of the United States (especially in the big cities there) but the wait times and the rationing of care by government bureaucrats is something you probably wouldn't much care for. And no, when you consider that easily an additional 15-20% of your pay (at least that's what a few college colleagues tell me) goes to something you have to ask permission to use, it's not cheaper.

Anyway, as an aside, more than a place per se, maybe consider what sort of environment you'd like to find yourself in all the time. I always remind myself that no place you visit on vacation would be like that if you lived and worked there all the time. It's easy to become enamored of a locale because you're a tourist and when there you're doing things people there typically don't do everyday and you're not worrying about bills, budgets, kids, etc like the locals all around you are. Greece can be a beautiful place. Hell no I wouldn't want to make my home there though.

This is what travel is all about: go places to enjoy yourself. The place you'd be smartest living in is the place that would allow you to travel as often as you'd like to.

Oh I have no illusions about the health care system. I just think Toronto is worth checking out.

Oh, it is. No doubt. It's a great place to visit. It's a great place to live...as long as you have lots of money. If you don't, you can still enjoy T.O. as long as you don't mind suburbia and commuting for ridiculously long periods of time everyday.

Well, I live in Boston right now which also has a high cost of living, so the cost-shock wouldn't be huge as I've already gone through that once. I think there are a lot of other places I'd rather look first, though.

and I'd want to travel to almost anywhere in Europe.
