I'm just wondering because no2 is like 5 or 6 years older than me. But I'm only like 7 or 8 years older than sloth. So... am I part of no2's generation or part of sloth's generation or a generation all my own?

OK, first off, I am two years older than you, not five or six.

Secondly, I figured it out. You go by gener's of humor. For example, a friend that is four years older than me hates Adam Sandler & Will Ferrell. He really enjoys Animal House. Meanwhile, I don't get Animal House, & quite enjoy Adam Sandler & Will Ferrell. A friend 4 years younger than myself doesn't like Sandler or Will Ferrell. So I judge generations by humor of movies & actors.

Wait, that's the metric? I just thought Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell sucked.

Who the fuck doesn't like Animal House?!? Squares. ;)

I know, but your profile didn't list a DOB... so I just made it up. :001_icon16:

Regarding the whole commenting on generations thing, I do think the generations that follow me are dumber for sure. But I also think that intellectual downhill trend started with the baby boom generation (Sorry guys... I know it is a generalization which many of you don't fit). But when I see youth of today running into shit because they are on their phones, wrecking multiple of their parents cars, throwing out all their personal info and then wonder why they are being stalked by pedophiles I am flabbergasted.

Once in awhile I meet decent younger people who know their stuff. But they are getting more scarce all the time. I know this trend is getting worse as I have been watching for it over several years. Not to mention science shows that when organisms have an abundance of the essential needs, they get lazy. Also probably part of the reason for the obesity problem as well.

Just my two cents. :)

I won't say kids today are smarter or dumber than kids before. I can say that, by in large, they lack the manners and patience of their generational predecessors and they carry around a fairly large entitlement complex. They also seem to have less understanding of consequences for their actions. Perhaps not understanding so much as they don't expect those consequences to be applied to them. There is a strong belief in second chances and in general getting a pass on things.

Are they more adept with technology? Sure but they also tend to be less adept mechanically and many truly do treat work as a four letter word. I never walked back and forth to school uphill both ways but kids are softer and lack a stouter backbone than they used to.

As curmudegeonly as it sounds, there are real consequences for giving up and failing except it seems our society has habitually patted these kids on the head and told them it's all right and that what matters is how they feel about it...and that's nothing more than corrosive bullshit.

I get far too lax with my privacy on the Internet. I absolutely REFUSE to use Twitter, or FaceBook, LinkedIn, or pretty much any other site. (I have honestly never even seen Twitter and have no idea how it works. Facebook too.) Somehow that makes me feel "safe". Yet, rationally I know all my email is online (although not public), and I do things like post here. A good hacker could probably tell you anything you want to know about me even though I try to maintain as small of a footprint on the net as possible and keep my identity relatively secret.

The moment that I "woke up" was when I had a land-lord ask me how my band was doing. There was only one way for him to even know that I was in a band and that was to google me. I suddenly realized that anything public on the Internet is public. Fortunately for me, I was in a pretty "tame" band and there wasn't anything there I was ashamed of. Still. I can only imagine if I was in a band called the "Heroine Junkies" or something.

I had a guy try and sell me a new home security system (I already have one). I had ignored him ringing my door for a couple days and he caught me one day while I was coming home. We talked for quite awhile, while in my head I'm examining every word I say to him for it's usefulness in Phishing (he's a total stranger after all). But he had a computer and he showed my how much data he had on everyone on my block. But he said that my house showed to be empty. They had no data on me. I thought that was kind of interesting.

Generations are like music. You remember the best of the old stuff but everything on the radio right now is total crap.
