Anyone familiar with/worked for Baanyan?

Posted 16 August 2013 - 06:38 AM

I posted my resume recently, and yesterday received a call from a place called Baanyan.

Their initial pitch sounded interesting. It wasn't anything too-good-to-be-true and didn't seem strange. Only oddity is that they asked if I'd be willing to commit at least a year working for them. That sounds like it has high turn around, or maybe people get into it and find out it wasn't what they expected. It doesn't have any of the scam employer marks that I usually watch for (we need you to pay for this class! and stuff like that).

However, as with any potential employer I decided to check them out on Google. Immediately, some bad reviews. Well, ok, any company is bound to have angry customers displeased over whatever calling them a bad company. That doesn't immediately set off any alarms for me. But I can't find anything positive about them, any customer reviews that put them in a positive light, any former employees or even current commenting on them.

I'm interested in the job I discussed with them, but I'm weary of only negative reviews and no other footprint. Can anyone shed light on the company?

Thanks!

seems to me you would be contracted out to various business. I would be VERY careful in doing this kind of thing as they typically don't pay you when you are not working for a client. I know from experience with another company. It also looks like the position they are offering is at least a National position where you could be relocating across the US at a moments notice. Personally I wouldn't want a job like that, but if you're flexible and willing to drop everything to move across country then go for it. These type of positions usually pay better too.

Yep, that's what we discussed. I'm flexible, and I'd like to take a few years to be shuffled around like that, honestly. I think it would be a good experience, work aside. I don't travel nearly enough, being unbound would be...interesting.

My biggest concern is getting paid when they don't have me on a contract. So I'll make sure I discuss that with them. I never knew about that website, glass door. That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Thank you!

No problem. I've been using glassdoor.com for sometime as a decent jumping off point for making a dossier (which is French for dossier) on any company that comes a calling.

I would be upfront about their paying you when you are on "on the bench". I've known some companies that will put you on paid training and expect you to go after certs and what not on down time.. others that expect you to freelance in your down time... or others that just pay you to hang out (abet a bit less than on a job). They should have no problem being clear on that point.

There are just so many negative comments on this company.
So did you work there? How is it?

I never accepted the position with Baanyan. I don't really have any feedback on them. The recruiter I spoke with gave me a bad vibe, but other people I've talked to seemed pretty normal and down with it.
