Procedures and costs of developing a video game

Posted 20 August 2013 - 02:53 PM

Hi I am doing research on game developments and there are a few things I would like to find out from the members in this community.

How much would it cost to make a game like Grand theft auto 5 and how much would it cost to make a simpler/less complex game?

What are the procedures that must be followed ?

And what are the resources (artists, programmers e.t.c) that will be required?
Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Bhatia detailed a "hypothetical profitability model" for GTA V based on an estimated development cost of $137.5 million (representing a team of 250 people working on the project for five years)

Ah.. less? That's pretty vague.

All of them? Artist, programmers, level makers, qa, project managers, sound, etc... etc... etc. 250-ish folks.

There are many variables is forecasting how much a game will cost to make, including:

1. Platform licences.
2. Manpower, both existing and potential new hires.
3. Equipment.
4. How my time those producing company (putting the money forward to make the game possible) are prepared to allow and how mush funds they have put aside.

When deciding to make a game you don't design everything first and then come up with a final figure, you determine the resources you have first (in terms of money and skill sets in the team developing the game) and work towards developing the game within those constraints.

You much ensure that all legal is covered in terms of licensing platforms, tools and any other material that is not your own work that you intend to use in the game.

Way too vague to answer You can only know that once the funding and title is planned out.

I'm actually looking for an average of the overall cost. Like How much would it cost to make a less advance game such as: Older versions of GTA; WWE or Taken 5

Seriously? I hate to say this but you can throw in "How much did it cost to make X" (where X is your game title) to any search engine... That's something I am certain you can research.
