Corrupted ASPX Code file

Posted 29 August 2013 - 10:29 AM

Anyone have any solutions as to how I might recover the code I wrote for a code behind on an aspx page? When I clicked save windows crashed on me, and when I rebooted the project loaded up fine but when I try to load the aspx.vb code behind it doesn't do anything, and won't load it at all. I'm assuming the file was corrupted maybe? Any ideas guys?

Are you talking about your published page or your actual solution?

Solution. I was just trying to load up my project again and when I clicked the view code button it just changed my cursor for a second but didn't load anything. When I try to open the file separately using vb it loads up and just shows numbers. Not sure what that means.

Do you have a screen shot of the output when you open it up?

Yes. This is all I see when I load up the file in Visual Studio 2010.

.. and you are 100% certain that is not a .dll or .compiled file? That you are _NOT_ in the published/compiled code area?

100% sure. Even the compiler can't load the code behind anymore. Gives me the error "Unable to open module file 'ElecJax.aspx.vb': System Error &H80041feb&" Longer error than that but that's the gist of it. Asks that I make sure the code behind file is truly a file with .vb extension. Opened it in notepad and the file is completely empty but it's 84kb in size.

Well.. then you are SOL (unless you have a backup). That looks like a compiled file (or dll).. if that's all you have left in your code's solution folder (and, again, not your published folder) then.. well.. that's it. Scrap it and start again.

Figured as much. Downloaded the program .Net Reflector and was able to grab my source code out of the debug dll, but alas windows left it's magic touch. Thanks for the help anways modi123.

Side question - what sort of setup are you running? Maybe I just keep a tight ship, but I haven't had a windows crash in.. sheesh. years.

Maybe an app stops responding, but a window crash? Not so much.

It's a pretty recent setup, all up to date internals except one part. My cooling isn't too good, and my primary fans look to have a nice layer of dust in them. Thinking it might have overheated. I've had blue screens of death from high temperatures before but I installed two more fans, and it's been about 3 years since lol. Dust had to be the culprit.

Just a shitty case to be honest. I've got another one waiting for me with water cooling, but just haven't had the time to take everything out of this one and throw it in.
