[Competition] jPlayer.js Audio/Video Player plugin

Post icon  Posted 01 September 2013 - 10:05 AM

Is everybody ready for the next Javascript competition? This one will be using the jQuery plugin jPlayer.js.

It will will be easy to get started on this one because we have a template with a basic model that you can change how you see fit to meet the rules.

Attached File  jPlayer-template.zip (431.92K)
Number of downloads: 25

Rules
  • Your entry should be hosted for all to see on the web, there are many free hosting sites if you don't have a domain of your own.
  • You can use jPlayer.js as a video or audio player, your choice.
  • The voting will be based on the best usage of the players controls and implementation, and I am sure some design.
  • There will be NO use of jPlayer templates (skins) allowed, your player(s) must be your own design and code. Anyone that is caught using a jPlayer skin will be disqualified and will not get to be in the final vote.
  • The final rule is that if you are going to post someone elses audio or video you must not post it all without their permission ( be honest ). Have respect for others work, there are plenty of sites to get free legal sounds, like the toilet audio in the template or try making your own. If you post a full song and are called out, you will be expected to provide written permission from the owner or proof that it is legal to use without written permission.

So basicly, use jplayer.js to create a unique and working video or audio player. Host the finished code on a web host for all to see, and most of all have fun with it. get creative, just because its an audio player doesn't mean it has to have buttons and play songs.

This competition will be open until the 22nd of September, after which voting will commence.

Good luck everyone.

Four days left, I hope I am not the only one here. This is getting embarrassing, what with two competitions now that had two or less entries with one being myself.

I will have to find something else I guess, if this doesn't pan out.

Even if you are not going to to enter this one, can you tell me why this is of no interest to you?

I hope you are not getting too discouraged.

Just my opinion, but I think you are setting the barrier for entry too high: asking someone to learn a plug-in, and then host their answer. I would begin small ;) with a programming challenge that people can post some code (in the thread) for. This encourages others to comment on the responses and, hopefully, encourages them to post their own attempt. (It will also give the thread a longevity.)

But, as I say, JMO.

Andy,
Thanks for your input. I appreciate your opinion. I really didn't feel that I set the bar too high, but maybe I did. I find it fun to learn a new plugin and I thought this one to be a bit of a challenge but not undo-able in three weeks.

I will have to rethink this I guess.

Well, I will close this now as no one had said they have an entry. I guess I will have to re-think the concept for the JS competitions.
