Suggestions for Secure cloud backup

Posted 11 September 2013 - 10:32 AM

So I was at a clients house repairing her Zone-Alarm installation and she asked me about a secure online "cloud" backup.

She does medical billing and she is worried about the confidential information on her disk. Her husband was an IT guy that passed a few days ago and he did all their backup locally on 1 TB drives. She is convinced that she needs to backup online, and I told her I would look into a secure online backup company for her.

So, do any of you have an opinion on carbonite.com? Do you know of a more secure/better online backup site?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

I don't know if this link is useful: IBackup for Healthcare industry. But I don't know anything about this subject, although I assume important questions are how frequent the backups are and how large each one is.

Hopefully, someone else has more specific advice.

In a package deal to our corporate support clients, we offer Backups at Gillware. They provide compressed, encrypted storage. They get 2 gb (again, compressed) free, & then billing rates are tier based after that.

Our personal sales agent is Grant Caldwell. I would recommend reaching out to him with any questions : gcaldwell@gillware.com : 877.624.7206 x8796

** Edit **
Correction, it's 50¢ per gb over 2 gb usage, not tiered rates.

Carbonite is pretty solid.

Depending on how frequent she needs the backups, or how quick to access, Amazon's Glacier is an interesting super cheap alternative.

I was going to write a list of a few we've looked into, but they are encapsulated here with a few more.

Thanks for your time guys, I will have to look into this more. I am just glad no one said "Don't use ______, it is prone to security issues". I am not much of Guru for online backup.

Don't forget - you can totally encrypt your data more with something like truecrypt and just store the encrypted files..
