Php and other languages won't run

Posted 11 September 2013 - 11:54 AM

I canít get several languages to preview in my browsers which are up to date, core dual XP pro SP 2 with 1gig. Iíve tried PHP, ASP and Jscript. The page comes up as text. Do I need to upload to a site that supports these languages or down load an emulator? Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks:
Paul

Assuming you are running a webserver on your computer, such as Apache or IIS, you need to have those engines installed. The code doesn't just magically work.

Moving to Web Servers & Hosting, as this isn't a question on PHP code.

Ah, no2pencil, you moved it at the same time I was! :)

Just so the reply isn't wasted, here's the "helpful" portion of the reply I had typed out:

Have you installed a web server package, such as XAMPP? If you're just loading the files directly into your browser, they won't actually be interpreted, and so they'll show up as text.

As far as Javascript goes, that needs to be loaded inside of an HTML page for it to be processed. Loading the file directly into the browser will result in text like the other examples.

XAMPP won't do ASP without some help, and that depends on which type of ASP you're doing (Classic ASP or ASP.Net).
