I sometimes just boot into one of the live-CDs for the popular Linux distros, mount the Windows drive and scan it from there. No need to actually install the system. Much more handy when dealing with other people's computers.

There was a FBI virus. It pops up every time you log on to the computer. It will disable every thing. There was also a pop up that demands 200 dollars to be transferred through moneypak else the computer will be shut down permanently. Also the webcam automatically turned on, with the timer beside it. When you go to safe mode it will shut down 1 second after you logged onto it. How i fixed it? By going through recovery mode, this is the most advanced virus i have ever seen.

another way to do that is to be really fast in opening task manager (ctrl shift esc) after booting into windows, and find the virus in the process list - that particular one has a goofy looking file name that's usually easy to pick out in the list - and close it before it gets going.

Takes some rapidity but that virus also only takes a few file deletions to remove. Make a mental note of the virus name when you're closing it and find it in your user data folder (app data maybe?) and bam, gone.

I've had to remove that one way too many times.

Oh - also, you'll need to remove a couple registry entries that cause it to load, and it may disable applications like MalwareBytes through the registry, or even the executable file association.

More an honourable mention than really heavily infected.

We have a computer at work with a virus that modern antivirus can't remove. Not because it is too advanced for them, but because it is too old for them. The computer is running Windows 3.1 and carries the jumper virus. There isn't even any way of installing AV on that machine.

It does, but we are afraid to move it. If the dust falls out of it, it might stop working.

I hate when people say a mac can't get a virus. The most certainly can. I used to work for apple as a senior advisor (phone support) and though it was rare, I did deal with people who had gotten virus(s) on their mac.

To be fair, he said it doesn't happen anymore. Didn't say that it can't happen.
