Horse Boarding Site needs review

Posted 09 September 2007 - 05:19 PM

Ok, I'm making a Horse boarding site for my parents. They ARE paying me, so I'm making it the best I can. I've been working on it yesterday and today, so there's not TOO much time put into it.

Here it is:
http://www.asadarnel...m/flr/index.htm

The homepage is the only page, links go no where yet.
Please give me some comments/criticism.
thanks,
Asa

Looks nice. The menu at the top probably could use a little less white space (the space around the words) but other than that, it is turning out nicely. Keep up the work on it.

:)

Nice site, easy on the eyes, clean professional lines. I agree with less whitespace on the navigation bar, but definately a nice site.

The whitespace you're referring to is between the buttons right?

Also, something neither of yall noticed, and neither did I, but the text on the buttons was off center from the button itself. A member on another forum metioned it, and I fixed it.

Thanks for the advice.

I have one question, do either of you know a way to make a border around the outside ONLY of a table? Like I was thinking of putting a 1px black or grey border around the entire site, to separate it from the background, but when I add a border to the table, it puts it between all the cells, which I don't want.

Thanks,
asa

Yeah just specify the style on the table itself. Either inline or through a style sheet.

Example...

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="border: #000000 solid 1px;">

That will put the border around the outside of the table as you have requested.

Again, good work.

I never rolled over any of the links, and from initial load (without rolling over them) theres no outline around the buttons so theres no way I could have seen it.

Nice overall design. Fonts for menus and headings need to be enhanced. The menu and headings should be a bit stronger and stand out a bit more... Apart from that, I assume some more photos to spice things up are on the way.

With those two things I think this is a rocking (horse - pardon the pun) design :).

Thanks, yes, this site will have a lot of pictures within the text, and not too much text.

I'll probably put another button on the menu, as those buttons aren't for sure. That will make less whitespace also.

Thanks for the critiquing guys.

I really like this site, it looks great, and I am a big fan of Grey...but it seems for a site about horses that the colors should be more....earthy? It looks great, and if it weren't a site about horses I wouldn't say anything, but if it were me, I would warm up the colors. Maybe even just keep the black and change the Grey to a light color from the sunset.

My suggestions as follows:

1. the image at the top looks rather poor, take it back to Photoshop and add some saturation to it + some contrast to bring the colors out.. I`d opt for something bigger, though. Get rid of those funny fonts that bear no relation to animals in general..

2. Have you noticed a bright spot in your image? 50pixels from the left border. This could nicely blend in with the background(white or something light instead of having a dark color!)
colors: Silver + animals??? i dont think so... Look for symbols, things related to horses (a farm, a nice horse, countryside or something along those lines if you know what i mean..)

3. the layout: I am not sure about it. looks like a business site to me... As said, make sure you have an attractive image catching everyone`s eye at the top and dont forget to blend it with the rest since I am getting the impression that your site serves as a small cage preventing those horses from running around:))

P.S: make your site speak for itself. You dont have to include a tons of information in it..

That is my opinion.

that's one of the things she asked for - that font. It's what she uses on her logo(which isn't on the site yet) and her signs and things.

Thanks,
Asa
