Quite confused about Game dev with AS3,Flash and HTML5

Posted 22 September 2013 - 06:16 PM

Hi all,

Please excuse the ignorance of this post. I am in the process of learning HTML and CSS, eventually I want to
create my own games using Flash for game art and actionscript3 as my scripting language. i am getting the sense that this may be problematic with HTML 5. Could anyone share some insight as to how to proceed. Thank you so much

If you want to use flash then essentially you will only use HTML to embed your flash content. The rest is handled by flash and AS3.

I think that you should use HTML just because it can target more platforms than Flash. If it is 2D game I don't see lot of HTML disadvantages on desktop. On mobile it is a bit different. You can't really compete with native apps in terms of performance. But you can do some nice games too. Also there is option to use CocoonJS which compiles your HTML and runs close to native speed.
