Pulling data from one database to another

Posted 29 September 2013 - 04:45 PM

Good afternoon all,

I have been working on a system lately to pull data from one database on a network server, modify it slightly and then push the data into the correct tables in a database on a local server if the entry does not already exist.

The idea behind it is to pull data from a building database and update a carpark database with any changes/new tanants.

I have been mucking around with C++ to try and do this but have been having a few issues with reading the data. One of my workmates suggested that I try and use the carpark SQL database to pull the information directly from the building database. Before I go chasing down this line of thought I would like to know from those more experienced if this is possible or am I better off continuing with the C++ approach.

I would only be pulling from one table using
 SELECT [Acct]

      ,[FirstName]

      ,[ClubLevelName]

      ,[BirthDt]

      ,[IsPlayer]

  FROM [CMP12].[dbo].[VWPlayerCardParkDtl]

and then loading into 3 different tables on the local database.

any advice or help you can give would be great.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

I am not sure what DB you are using, but this should be a pretty trivial task, right?
Read from A, into a collection.
Do what ever transformations you need on that collection.
From the collection, push data to B.
