15 years old, in BASIC, on an IMSAI 8080. Of course to program in BASIC you first had to load it from the tape drive. To load from the tape drive you had to input a long sequence of bytes using the front panel switches.

Don't remember the code, but I do remember it was on an Apple II and Commodore 64 depending on where I was.

My first program was the standard hello world, using Fortran IV in Junior High. Too long ago to remember my age.

Jim

The ages for Junior High in the U.S. are between 11 - 14.

Anyways, I wrote my first code, between my 7th & 8th Grade of School, so I was either 12 or 13, and it was in C. I then gave up on it for now, and went to Python, someday, I will go back to C!

When I was 8 or 9 my dad put QBASIC on the computer and I fooled around with it. I figured out how to do basic math with it and that was it, but I was a kid, and didn't touch code again until I was 12 or 13, and then only if you can really count HTML as code.

I was a freshman in high school so around 14. My first programs were on the TI-85 graphing calculator. I later moved up to the TI-86 calculator. Before that wasn't so much programming as it was slinging around API code - oh how the times have not changed much.

The year after that, I took pascal. The year after that, C++. Both set me back quite a bit but that's another story.

freshmen in high school, I was 15 at the time. My birthday had just passed a few weeks before. It was using what a set of tutorials called C++ but was really C with cout/cin instead.

I think when I was 7 or 8 years old... I can't remember now... But I wrote a simple python program that prints 'Hello, World!' into the console output.

First time I typed up s'm code was when I was 10, that was C++:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main()
{
cout<<"Hello, world!";
return 0;
}

Back then, though, I couldn't write that from memory. I rushed things a bit then wondered why I have no idea what everyone else is talking about. Also I had programmer's dyslexia (<< and >>). Now I've decided to move into C# and out of C++ (as the user interface design in VS2012 works much better with C# and is more convenient).

15. Great age to start, IMO. My dad set me up with VB, I made a "Hello " + name GUI, and moved on to Java. Good times
