Google Analytics: Entry Pages Question

Posted 08 October 2013 - 01:28 PM

My site presently has pretty good rankings in Google; however, it is a pretty specialized niche (numerical mathematics) and traffic has plateaued. Apparently, even being at the top of the SERPs doesn't guarantee mega traffic. So much for my plans of fame and fortune via the Internet. :(

To increase traffic, one of my attempts has been to create new pages.
My line of thinking is that by creating brand-new pages, I can attract traffic from additional searches that my present content did not attract.

In fact, one of my new pages has been up for a few months, but either it is not yielding the increase in traffic I expected it to, or I am not reading Google Analytics correctly.

Google Analytics indicates that this new page only has 2 or 3 "Entrances" per week.
How do I interpret that?
Are those only the direct entries (i.e. - a referral from another page, or somebody manually typing in the URL)?
Or are does that number also include visitors who have been directed to that specific page via a search?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Entrances - the number of times that page was the first page seen.. As in they directly linked to that specific page and did not navigate to it from another page on your site.

Thank-you.

Those links are very informative.

However, this does blow my theory of doubling traffic easy out of the water.
I had hoped to double traffic simply by adding 3 or 4 new pages. Assume each new page increases traffic 10% each time. So a 10% increase each times creates a double after the fourth time. Apparently, it is not as simple as the math. Or my math was based on a faulty assumption. Dang!

I guess it is back to the drawing board for a while.
