How can I reduce the amount of records in a table?

Posted 12 October 2013 - 02:17 PM

Hi All,

I have a POCO Class called comments, which is an entity mapping to the Comment table.

      public partial class Comment
    {
        public long ID { get; set; }
        public string Comment { get; set; }
    }

The issue is that I could potentially have a million records in the Comment Table.

Is there a technique that i can use to reduce this overhead?

I'm a little unclear: is your question about your database structure? It's design and maintenance? Or about how entity-mappings interact with a database?

Enterprise databases can cope with such numbers of records, so I suppose another question is: do you need to store 1 million records in this single table? That is, do all of these comments need to be readily available, or can you move/archive (or possibly delete) older, inactive, comments?

A million records is...not much.

Isn't the comment likely to associated to something? Like a product?

CommentTable
------------
PK ProductID
PK CommenNo
   CommentID

Only return those comments.

An you need to load them into memory all at once? I seriously doubt it. What are you trying to do?
