Ask the question of a group who are, collectively, notorious for being sedentary slugs who munch Cheetos, drink Yoohoo and play video games for their strenuous exercise.

This is so true. 'Cause as we all know, stereotypes are exactly like reality.

Protein helps repair muscles. You can be a vegetarian and lift. Plant protein and vegetarianism seems like a harder route to go to make sure you get all your macronutrients but it's doable. It will help repir and build muscle and I believe it reduces doms a little bit too.

notorious

adjective

1. widely and unfavorably known: a notorious gambler. Synonyms: infamous, egregious, outrageous, arrant, flagrant, disreputable.
2. publicly or generally known, as for a particular trait: a newspaper that is notorious for its sensationalism.

I also found another that seems particularly apt.

Looking up definitions on line, of course, is not a way to reduce belly fat.

also eating protein will help you.

Really? How?

I ask because this is usually a justification for "I have to eat lots of meat because I'm working out" and this is utter nonsense, as any vegetarian athlete can tell you. So if you're going to make a statement like this, it's really useful to quantify it, or it becomes pretty meaningless.

You don't HAVE to eat lots of meat because you're working out, but protein does help. Protein helps repair muscles, whether you're getting it from eating steak or simply drinking a protein shake. When you lift weights you're tearing your muscle fibers on a tiny scale, and they use protein to repair themselves. Your body produces protein on its own, which is enough to repair them, however taking protein within 30 minutes of an hour has been proven to enhance the process. I didn't make the statement to bash on vegetarians, nor did I say that you can't be a vegetarian and an athlete at the same time, but before you go on your rant about my "nonsense" please do a little research of your own.

That wasn't a rant, it was an observation. Your advice to "eat protein", unquantified and unjustified, is very close to being literally meaningless, just as the complementary advice to "eat carbs" or "eat fats" would be. If you quantify it, it gets some meaning. So how much protein should one eat to repair muscles if one is lifting weights regularly?

The "nonsense" I mentioned was the idea that "I have to eat meat because I'm working out". I mentioned that not because you made any such claim, but because your advice is frequently taken to justify that claim, and so you would naturally want to give more sensible - that is, more specific - advice.
