I don't recall (unless I missed it) anybody saying meat specifically until you. Protein doesn't always mean meat. Whey proteins come from milk iirc.

As I said, that was just an example of why it's important to be specific. "Eat protein" is not useful advice because it tends to license all sorts of interpretations, most of which will not be correct. The "must eat meat, I'm exercising" idea is one of them, and it's extremely common.

Two more points to add

1) I'm a pure vegetarian, don't even make use of egg.
2) I don't need protein ,i mean whey protein(product).

NOTE: I don't want to build muscles just want to be fit.

@x-logan - those are not just 'two fingers'.. that's a guy throwing up the horns and rocking out.

Spoiler

Fact: throwing up the horns calls the devil.

Not to nit pick, but they are the same thing. In order to be physically fit, you need stronger muscles. Muscles such as your abdomin and back are essential when taking part in any kind of physical activity. After any exercise (even if it's only cardio) you may feel these core areas, and your legs, are a little weaker than usual. You have damaged them slightly and they need to repair, which can only be done by eating good sources of protein, macronutrients and carbohydrates.

It's funny actually, I was in the gym the other day and there was this slightly overweight guy getting his induction with his free 1-hour personal trainer. They were on the machine next to me and were talking about his goals, and where he'd like to be in 6 months. He told his trainer: 'I just want to focus on cardio, I don't really like the big bulky muscle look'. It makes me chuckle when I hear people say this. They think if they start hitting the weights they are going to come out of the gym in a month looking like Arnold.

The fittest people on the planet will be those who can find the perfect balance between strength and aerobic endurance, so don't neglet either.

That whole "I don't want to bulk up" thing can often be chalked up to one of two things in my experience. Either "I'm not really planning on trying that hard" (which is fine) or "There's no way I trust myself enough to get up hope that I'd actually work out enough to look like that, so I'm going to manage my expectations by keeping that off the table." The latter is especially unfortunate, because so many people fail to realize their potential because they don't trust themselves to reach it.

What about "Abnormally excessive muscular development is not numbered among my life goals?"

Sounds like the same thought process that developed job titles like Waste Management Specialist...

I guess I just don't see how achieving a healthy degree of physical fitness and muscle development and stopping there is "failing to live up your potential". Or for that matter how the bodybuilder physique* is in some way "living up to your potential. To me, there's functional fitness - fitness that extends the range of things you can do - and there's the Mr. Universe stuff, which looks to me a lot like some of the weirder things people are doing with piercings and scarring and such - fine, if that's your kink, but I hardly think that's a standard you want to set for "fitness".

So the OP is just trying to clarify what they're looking for. Working off the excess body fat, getting back to something like "normal", and maintaining that, and not looking for more than that. Seems totally reasonable to me.

* I assume this is what is meant by "bulking up"

i think hannibals point is more "they don't do this thing that's healthy for themselves and WILL help the goals they do have and won't actually result in the goals that they don't have out of fear/ignorance/laziness".

essentially, it's an excuse to not achieve their positive goals.
