For mcq software where to store questions and answers.

Posted 14 October 2013 - 03:18 AM

Hello,
I have created a software in vb6.0 for objective exam.
I have used access database as back end.
Now I need to display question and four options in more than one language and want to display graphics also in my question and four options.
Which datatype of access I should use for this purpose or if there is any other way to solve this problem.

you can use 2 or more tables where you store your questions and answers.
example table1
lets name it tblQuestions
you can add 2 columns into it.
First is Q_ID "Stands for Question ID"
Second Column will be Questions

on table2
lets name it tblChoices
this is where you store your choices which also have a Q_IDChoices or something related to so that you can easily retrieve the the choices for every question.

on table3
this is where you store the correct answers for every question.
you will also need a column that will be related to your first table.
lets just say AnsQ_ID

this is how you can retrieve the stored data using select statement and joining tables.

"Select a.Questions,b.Choices,c.CorrectAnswer from tblQuestions as a Inner Join tblChoices on a.Q_ID=b.Q_IDChoices" 'and blah blah.
'Note: you must enclose your join parameters with parenthesis "()" if you will be joining more than 2 tables.

Hope that helped.
Good luck
